About The Job

At Google, our philosophy is build it, break it and then rebuild it better. That thinking is at the core of how we approach testing at Google. Unlike roles with similar names at the other companies, Test Engineers at Google aren't manual testers -- you write scripts to automate testing and create tools so developers can test their own code. As a Test Engineer, you navigate Google's massive codebase, identify weak spots and constantly design better and creative ways to break software and identify potential problems. You'll have a huge impact on the quality of Google's growing suite of products and services.

You use your knowledge of testing and testability to influence better software design, promote proper engineering practice, bug prevention strategies, testability, accessibility, privacy, and other advanced quality concepts across products.

We're working on our roadmap of incredible new products and experiences in building a helpful home by redefining how users experience their homes. Our team is building tooling to evaluate trained models that run on constrained hardware, developing interoperability frameworks to ensure that ecosystems of our device software and partner apps work. Additionally, we’re building highly-scalable virtual device emulator technology to speed developer workflows, and writing the tools that measure and give insight on performance bottlenecks in our devices and systems.

The Google Nest team focuses on hardware, software, and services for the home, ranging from Nest thermostats to Nest smart displays. The Google Nest team develops, designs, and develops new technologies and hardware to make users’ homes more helpful. Our mission is the helpful home: to create a home that cares for the people inside it and the world around it.

Responsibilities

  • Develop test strategy for new smart home products/features, as well as develop virtualization and device simulators based automated feature validation.
  • Build a stable and reliable automated test suited to validate Google devices working together in a continuous integration system. Validate algorithms running on devices and validate improvements to ship high quality products.
  • Develop test hooks to monitor code health and system stability.
  • Identify key product indicators and build analytics that drive new features and improvements.
  • Assist with root-cause failures and indicator changes, through automated analysis.
