Talented Professionals in a Digital Future: Need for Upskilling, Cross Industry and Cross Cultural Learning

World Economic Forum has highlighted the need for 50% of the workforce to be upskilled and acquire new skills due to changing technology and growing automation. The fear of losing jobs is part of the process, although jobs will always be there. The role of the manager will remain relevant only if they equip themselves with new skills and knowledge. The expanding relevance of AI, technology and data science in several sectors of Industry has greatly increased the demand for skilled workers.

According to Employment Outlook Report 2022, (October to December, 2022), the optimism in the services sector continues to surge as 73% of employers are ardent on increasing their resource pool in this quarter. For candidates, aspiring to secure opportunities in the services segment, the key sectors expressing a higher intent to hire are information technology (96%), educational services (95%), e-commerce & allied startups (92%), telecommunications (90%), retail [essential] (79%), financial services (78%) and logistics (75%). As the demand for services has increased post the pandemic, large firms (79%), medium sized firms (45%) and small firms (57%) have all shown a strong hiring intent. Organisations are largely hiring for IT, sales, and engineering roles.

In this context, Cross Industry and Cross Cultural Learning is necessary to stand stable in the job market today. This will surely help in retaining the best talent and encouraging them to enhance their skills and gain cross cultural and cross country knowledge.
