I was in Agony,
Standing on my balcony, my hands began to shake as I read an email saying “We regret to inform you that…”. It was the rejection letter for my dream school to get my dream job -Commercial Pilot.
As I grew up, the struggle of getting the ideal dream job still weighed on my shoulders, especially when I looked for the first one. My dream job changed from chef to professional archer to project manager after that.
Dream job is Myth
The fact is that the dream job does not exist and human passions and interests change over time. In other words, what we want out of our job today may not be what we want a few years down the road. People evolve and so do their dreams and goals. Almost all of us were awestruck by the Harry Potter movies, the Magic spells and World of Hogwarts were captivating back then, but now it does not spellbind us. Our interests change over time and so do our passions.
Illusion of perfection
Perfection is subjective. Perfection can vary from person to person based on experiences, age, and situation they grew up in. No job is perfect, depending on time and nature of work the jobs can be interesting and uninteresting at some point. You may not find anything if you are looking for a job that gives you all the perfect tasks.
Putting an end to a dream job?
Clearly, a perfect job has its flaws. But, these flaws don't necessarily mean that one should give up on their ambition. Clearly, It's all about re-conceptualizing the concept of a dream or perfect job.
Thus, rather than waiting for a dream job, look for an ideal job, which is professionally fulfilling. Professional fulfillment depends on various factors such as a variety of assignments, relationship with your colleagues, time to commute to your workplace, and work environment. There are NO fixed rules.
Remember, a dream job at 21 may not be the same job at 35. Thus, focus on the ideal job that will help you evolve until you find your next perfect job.
